Two cyclists. One big dream. Japan to Norway.
Born in Canada to Japanese parents, Mika has a heritage that connects her deeply to the first leg of our journey. She handles most of the photography and has an uncanny ability to find the best places to eat in every city and town we pass through.
Before this trip, Mika worked in business management. She loves social workplaces and brings that warm energy to every campsite and hostel along the way. She's also a huge fan of downhills.
Born in Norway but raised in Australia, Tom is the mastermind behind all of our route planning and is responsible for the overly optimistic daily distance estimates.
A chemical and software engineer by trade, Tom is easily pulled into the computer world β whether that's optimising our route or getting lost in GPS rabbit holes. He loves uphills, survives on whatever food is available, and could happily never visit a grocery store again.
We start in Kagoshima β the southernmost city of Kyushu β and cycle the length of Japan to Cape Soya, the northernmost point. Through cherry blossom season, the Japanese Alps, ancient temples, and Hokkaido's wild interior. Roughly 2,500 km of cycling.
From Egersund on Norway's southwest coast β Tom's maternal hometown β we head north through fjords, past Bergen, and up through the Arctic landscape to TromsΓΈ. Another roughly 2,500 km, but with significantly more mountains and fewer convenience stores.
We share updates from the road β blog posts, photos, and route updates.
